Tidal Wetlands

I have been working with a number of graduate students during the last decade to understand how tidal wetlands in Delaware have evolved in response to changes in sea-level, sediment suply, wave climate, subsidence, and other variables.

My current efforts, in collaboration with Dr. Ron Martin , involve trying to correct stratigraphic records of foraminiferal abundances for the combined effects of bioturbation, dissolution, and compaction.

This study, funded by the NSF, builds on previous work to:

  1. improve the existing sea-level history for coastal Delaware; and
  2. develop mathematical models to understand and evaluate the influence of compaction on the evolution of coastal wetlands.
